The Lee Bees currently operate on a disused runway at Lee on Solent Airfield, formerly HMS Daedalus. The airfield is run by Regional and City Airports who also run Exeter and Blackpool among others. HM Coastguard also operate their Search & Rescue Helicopters from here together with a Microlight Club as well as a variety of General Aviation including Fixed Wing and Heli Flight schools.
The airfield has good facilities for visitors with a Café and Viewing Lounge at the Control Tower and is accessible via what is now a public road past the new CEMAST Tech. College off Manor Way, Lee on Solent. Should we be flying, we are located adjacent to the Driving Test Centre on that road, although access would have to be arranged as we are airside.
Given that we operate on a `mixed` site, all our model pilots have attained the BMFA A Certificate as a minimum requirement to fly and is a condition of our agreement with RCAM. We do welcome new members, however, they must have an A cert. in the discipline they wish to fly. Further details can be had on request on the Contact us page for complete novices who wish to learn and those who can fly but as yet have not attained the A Cert. More details on the BMFA Achievement Scheme can be found HERE.
